Help for Activation Issues

You can obtain an emailed list of all of the activation codes that were purchased or activated using your email address by entering it here.

Just go here and enter your activation code and password, and you can then change your registered email address.

Your license allows you to activate Stat/Transfer on up to three computers, provided you are the primary user of each of those computers.  If you have exceeded this limit, you will need to deactivate one or more computers.  The best way to do that is to simply press the deactivate button on the about tab of Stat/Transfer.   If you no longer have access to one of the computers on which Stat/Transfer has been activated, you use our offline deactivation form.    This form requires that you know the name of the computer to be deactivated.  You can obtain a list of your computer names here.

All codes for perpetual licenses are version specific.  If you get this message, you a probably using an older license code to activate the latest version.  You will need to go to our user download center to download the correct version.  

You should be sure to press the Activate Online button.  The other button “Install License” is annual lease licenses , not activation codes, which are of the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.  Press the correct button and all will be well.

If you really read through these suggestions carefully and tried to solve your problem yourself and you still can’t activate your copy of Stat/Transfer, please open a support ticket.

Help for Technical Issues

You should download and install the Data Access Components from Microsoft.    Make sure that you install  the driver variant (32 or 64 bit)  that matches your Stat/Transfer.

If you are on a Mac, you will need to purchase a third party driver from Actual Technologies.

Encoding errors are almost never due to a fault in Stat/Transfer.  You can usually get rid of them yourself by judiciously setting your encoding options.  Before contacting technical support, please carefully read this explanation about character encoding.

Stat/Transfer versions lower than 14 will not run on Catalina or Big Sur because they are not 64 bit applications.  Version 14 will run, but you will have difficulties installing it because of new code-signing and notarization requirements.  If you are using these newer versions of OS-X, we strongly recommend that you update to version 15.

That is a misleading  error message.  It occurs when a file written by Stat/Transfer is for a newer version of Stata than the one you are using.  Simply go to Output Options(1) and select the version that corresponds to your copy of Stata.

Help for Sales and Subscription Issues

Subscription prices have recently increased by $50 per year, across the board.  However, your subscription will renew indefinitely at the price you paid, not the new price.  But, if you want to cancel, first find the email with your subscription information, then click on the “manage your orders” link.   After you enter your email address, you will be sent a link to your own management page.

Our order processing is handled by FastSpring, and independent reseller.  They  collect sales taxes from every jurisdiction where it is required.  If you are exempt, they will refund your taxes if you follow the procedures here

We are sorry, we can only provide limited technical support to users of version thirteen and older. You should consider upgrading to get full support and to enjoy all of the latest features in Stat/Transfer version fifteen.  That said, if you are having activation difficulties, please try the suggestions at the top of this page, and, then, if you are still having problems, select version fourteen and then fill out the form.  We will do our best to assist you.

Most Current Maintenance Release?

It is important that users upgrade to the latest maintenance release so that we are not answering questions about problems that may have already been fixed.  Please go the "About" tab of Stat/Transfer and select "Check for Updates Now".  If necessary,  please download and install the latest maintenance release of Stat/Transfer.

Description of Problem

Error Report
If you think think there is a problem with Stat/Transfer, by far the easiest and the most efficient way to get help is to first reproduce your problem and then press the "Send Error Report" button on the "Log" tab.  This will automatically send comprehensive diagnostics to our most knowledgeable technicians.  In addition, we strongly recommend that you use this facility to send a copy of your input file as well.  Your data will be encrypted and held in the strictest confidence for only as long as we need it to diagnose your problem.

Please also fill out this this form, because it will ensure that you are entered into our problem tracking system and make sure that your issue does not slip through the cracks. (You can omit the error message, files, and details about your version and computer, since they will be sent automatically with the error report).

This should be similar to the subject of an email.


Detailed Version and Computer Platform
The easiest way to enter your version and platform information is to start the Stat/Transfer graphical user interface and then go to the "About" tab.  If your copy has a "Copy Info" button, you can answer "Yes" and then simply paste your information.   Alternatively, you can enter the information manually  below.
